Content Distribution & Replication

VideoExchange integrates our advanced, intelligent and efficient replication engine to distribute assets and live streams across the cloud of delivery servers within the CDN. Asset replication is an important part of the unique VDO-X IP: a true next generation solution.

No sync, no network file system

Some CDNs copy every asset to every delivery server. They use syncing or global network file system technologies. The downside of this approach is that it can take hours before the asset is actually available. It also eats up storage: every PoP needs TeraBytes of expensive storage. 

No caching

Some CDNs use caching mechanisms. They pull assets through edge servers. This is quite easy and saves storage. But you cannot manage exactly which asset should be on which delivery server, and when. You also risk becoming dependent on the caching features of third party software.


Advanced distribution

VideoExchange uses a built-in, advanced mechanism to push content to delivery servers. Assets are available within 5 minutes at maximum. Every copy is MD5 checked through internal checkback feeds.

Auto Hot Asset

Whenever an asset becomes 'hot' in a specific region, the asset is immediately distributed to those servers you matched to that region. But only if you also matched these servers to the users account. Maximum control.

Auto bursting

As soon as the first server reports the availability of the hot asset, it is immediately used to deliver the asset in the region. Additional servers are automatically added to the pool and viewers are load balanced over these servers.


Automatic failover

Whenever a server, network or routing incident occurs, this delivery service is temporarily taken offline. You are alerted via the NOC page and text messages so you can restore the failed component. But do not panic: VideoExchange has already redirected users to fallback or bursting servers to guarantee maximum uptime.


Maximum control

You can control the popularity and TTL thresholds per account. Account users can even pre-populate assets by pushing them in advance to the available bursting servers. Our unique approach guarantees maximum control over asset distribution.

Efficient and fast

In a typical VideoExchange CDN setup, the edge servers require only one to five percent of the total stored content. Peaks are recognized and handled within five minutes, automatically. Oh, and live relays are processed exactly the same way.


No Peer2Peer

Peer2Peer technology is great for consumers who want to share assets. Some CDNs use P2P as an internal asset distribution mechanism. P2P is an unmanaged, demand driven technology. Therefore it is less controllable which delivery servers are used to deliver an asset. We prefer a managed push, demand driven solution.
