Projects

This page gives an overview of some of the CDN projects where VideoExchange is used to power the CDN.

IBM

IBM has deployed a CDN in their stunningly beautiful La Gaude Innovation & Business Solution Lab near Nice in southern France. The core of this CDN is our VDO-X CDN software. The IBM CDN can mimic traffic patterns of telco networks, to show the huge bandwidth savings, new business opportunities and new features an on-net CDN can provide. Contact us for a demonstration of VDO-X in the IBM lab.

New CDN

We can't disclose the CDN operators name due to NDA. This CDN company has deployed many delivery servers in the Middle-East, Europe and the USA. The company decided to stop their own R&D and license VDO-X instead. The heart of their CDN is our VDO-X technology. The CDN focusses on high quality media delivery (VOD and live streaming).

IP Exchange, EU + USA

IP Exchange is a leading German internet hosting and networking company. To improve global performance and to introduce premium delivery services, IP Exchange is deploying a global CDN with various PoPs in Europe and the USA, built with VideoExchange technology.

G3 Media, Russia

G3 Media is an Over-The-Top Russian company that is rolling out a web based IPTV platform in the largest Russian cities. VDO-X is used to dynamically trickle down movies to city PoPs and to redirect end users geographically to local edge PoPs.

Distribui, Latin America

Distribui is a Latin America Content Distribution Network, with several points of presence in the Region. "VDO-X adds a robust streaming platform to our current services, allowing us to rapidly grow our business".

SURFnet

"SURFnet is a very satisfied user of the VDO-X technology. We now have a scalable CDN infrastructure. One of the benefits is HD live and on-demand streaming video support in multiple formats. We were able to migrate to this new infrastructure in a short time frame, thanks to the support of the Jet Stream staff and the VDO-X software". Henny Bekker, SURFnet. SURFnet is one of the fastest broadband networks in the world, pioneering new technologies.

Telenet, Belgium

Telenet is the leading Belgian cable broadband operator. VDO-X powers the Telenet online media services, including the popular GarageTV video portal which is larger than YouTube in Belgium.

Ziggo, Netherlands

Multikabel, Casema and @Home merged into Ziggo, forming the largest cable operator in the Netherlands. VideoExchange was deployed independently for each company and powers WebTV streams and video portals, it also offloads traffic for broadcasters.

Paratel

Paratel is the infrastructure daughter company of Persgroep, a large group of newspapers, television, radio and online media companies. Paratel licensed VideoExchange for their large streaming infrastructure.

NPO

NPO (Dutch Public Broadcaster, similar to BBC) asked Jet Stream for a joint inter-CDN project. This project further builds upon the CDN overflow and overlay features of VDO-X. The goal of this federated CDN project is to further optimize content delivery, to lower delivery costs, to integrate multiple CDN's and to document the API's for inter-CDN standardization. Partners of the project are VDO-X powered customers KPN and SURFnet.

Claranet

Claranet is a leading managed services provider from Portugal, with 14 offices and 16 datacenters throughout western-Europe. The company focusses on complex infrastructures for leading customers. The company works for 36,000 enterprises including well-known brands such as Bloomberg, Aribus and Vivendi. To professionalize their streaming services, Claranet licensed VDO-X and now operates a full-blown, next-generation CDN.

StreamZilla CDN

Our own StreamZilla CDN is powered by our technologies. We actually started StreamZilla as a demo CDN, but it became so popular that we decided to launch it commercially. StreamZilla now covers 18 PoPs in Europe.

StreamZilla delivers billions streams per year for well-known European content owners, websites, video producers, broadcasters, enterprises, governments, educational and health institutes. With these volumes, StreamZilla delivers more streams than most 'global CDNs' do in Europe.

StreamZilla was awarded a triple A+ global availability and performance status for all streaming protocols independently. StreamZilla won the 2008 Streaming Media Magazine Readers' Choice Award for best European and UK Content Delivery Provider. StreamZilla has been profitable since the start.

Thanks to the StreamZilla operation we have daily input how to optimize a CDN: lower infrastructure costs, lower operational costs, lower support costs, better performance, more features, more self support. This knowledge is directly used to enhance and optimize the VDO-X technology.

KPN

Tier-1 operator KPN has deployed a full-featured, professional CDN based on our VideoExchange technology. KPN chose VDO-X for a number of reasons:

1) Fast time to market. The CDN deal was signed on May 1st 2009. The CDN was operational on July 1st 2009. No CDN has ever been deployed this fast. Average lead times for CDNs (whether internal developed or via bought technology is over one year. It took us and KPN 1 week for training, one day for architecture design, 1 week for hardware deployment, 1 week for software deployment, 1 week for configuration, 1 week for feature testing, 1 week for performance testing, 1 week for security testing and 1 week for acceptance.

2) Superior technology. VDO-X is a true next generation CDN solution that independently offers advanced replication, redirection and reporting technologies.

3) Standards. All popular delivery services are integrated. Flash, Silverlight, 3GPP, H.264, RTMP, RTSP, MMS streaming. The CDN works with standards based protocols for API's and internal communication such as XML and SOAP.

4) 100% control. We trained KPN to deploy the CDN themselves. KPN owns their own network, their own hardware, their own CDN. KPN can manage the CDN internally.

5) Expertise. By using VDO-X and having us help KPN to build the CDN, the staff gained an enormous amount of knowledge about streaming media technology, CDN management, architectures and operations.

6) Low costs. The costs for VDO-X are less than half a dollar per Mbps. This saves the operator on bandwidth.

7) Flexible business enabler: optimize traffic flow. Generate new revenues from content hosting and delivery. Strategically block CDN's from the home market.

8) Independent. Jet Stream is not affiliated with any other TelCo or vendor.

9) Market leader. Jet Stream has a long and proven track record in deploying CDN's for telecom operators and ISP's. Jet Stream ignited this market in 2002 and it is just since recently that other vendors stepped in.

10) Reliable partner. Jet Stream is one of the happy few companies - if not the only one - in this industry that actually make money. Jet Stream is solid, has no debts, no investors, grows fast and has been profitable since the start.
