Internet Exchanges are neutral hubs where carriers, hosting providers and access providers connect and exchange traffic. Due to the popularity of online video, exchanges are confronted with extreme high loads. But the standards for 100Gbps are not even finalized. Internet Exchanges have to move fast to bypass these huge and ever growing traffic loads directly from the content owners to the broadband access networks.

Internet CDN Working Group

We are the initiators of the AMS-IX Video Working Group. AMS-IX is the largest internet exchange in the world, it has the largest number of connected providers and the largest load. We researched the expected future loads on the exchanges and backbones and explained AMS-IX that without CDN offloading the internet in Western Europe could collapse under the video load. Together with AMS-IX, the largest Dutch broadband providers and the largest broadcasters, we started the Video Working Group that is working towards an open Internet Protocol for intelligent content delivery.
